Sailfish Deep Sea Sport Fishing CharterPalm Beach offshore sport fishing is known worldwide for both its variety and its close proximity to the famous SAILFISH ALLEY where multiple catches of sailfish are common during the winter months. Sailfish are the prime big game fish of the area and can be caught year round. They are the fastest fish in the ocean and are capable of 50 mph burst of speed. The average size is 40 lbs. but larger ones in the 60 lb. range are caught. Goggle eyes are the preferred live bait for sailfish. If the wind permits a fishing kite is flown from a special kite rod. Three release clips are attached to the kite line. The line from each fishing rod is then secured in a kite line clip. Each fishing rod line has a goggle eye attached which has been bridled to the hook with a rigging needle and a special rubber band. Upon getting a bite the fishing line pops out of the kite clip, the angler then cranks the line to come tight on the fish and the show is on. If hooked up to a sailfish the fight is usually spectacular with many jumps and heart pounding excitement. Once at the boat, it is picture time. Since sailfish are such gallant fighters and not good eating, they are always released at boat side to fight another day. If a trophy mount is desired a fiberglass replica can be produced.Wahoo Deep Sea Sport Fishing CharterWahoo are an occasional catch and are the head of the mackerel family. They are the second fastest fish in the ocean capable of speeds to 40 mph. That speed is displayed upon being hooked up. When eating a bait they attack from underneath and disable it by biting off the tail. Occasionally the attack includes a jump (skyrocket) of ten or more feet in the air. Wahoo are known for blistering reel smoking runs, beautiful vivid vertical stripes and are excellent table fare. They are also known as the rattle snake of the sea. When being boated they have a habit of coming into the boat with their mouth open looking for something or body to bite with their razor sharp teeth. Captain Don was bitten by one that required 18 stitches and for a nominal fee (laughs) will gladly display it to any and all interested parties.King Fish Deep Sea Sport Fishing CharterKing fish are a frequent catch and are second in the mackerel family to wahoo. They are a schooling fish and can eat up baits in a hurry. The larger ones in the 25 lb. plus range are known as “smokers”due to their strong initial runs when hooked. They are somewhat similar to the wahoo in shape and feeding habits in that they often attack from beneath and also will skyrocket. When live bait fishing for kings a second hook called a stinger is attached to the tail area of the bait in an attempt to prevent bite offs. Kings have excellent eye site and often bite just behind the stinger hook. Kings are considered good eating and are especially good smoked.Tuna Deep Sea Sport Fishing CharterBlackfin tuna , dolphin fish (mahimahi) and king fish are also caught depending on the party’s preference. The party is in charge in terms of what is to be targeted. The marina is located one mile from Palm Beach Inlet and depending on conditions baits can be out within 20 minutes of leaving the dock. Runs to the fishing grounds of no more than 3 miles are the norm. This translates into maximizing fishing time and catches. The beautiful warm blue waters of the Gulf Stream are usually just a few miles offshore. |
